Welcome to a new series on our blog: ‘Behind the scenes’. In this series we will show you how some of our products are made and the amazing plants that are used to create these products. In this first ‘behind the scenes’ post, we’re sharing with you how our newest product, the Rose & Beet lip tint came into existence and some of the steps that go into making this lovely product.
First off, we decided that we wanted to create a lip tint that was made out of plants (and a tiny bit of minerals). We already have several lip tints and lip stains available in the shop that are made with wonderful plant extracts, such as rose hips and hibiscus flowers, but we hadn’t created one yet that relies on roses and beets for it’s pigmentation and color, so we just had
For our Rose & Beet lip tint we use organic roses and beetroots that are dried without using any heat, so that all the vitamins and minerals stay intact. Then the dried roses and beetroots are made into a fine powder.
Because of this ‘cold’ drying process, all the nutrients are preserved, and therefore all these good nutrients will nourish your lips, thus not only giving your lips a lovely tint, but also nourishing your lips with lots of vitamins and minerals, yay!
We added luxurious, hydrating oils and butters, and gave the lip stain a creamy texture by using organic soy flakes, a great natural and vegan wax. As you can see on the photo below, combining the rose and beet powders with the oils, butter and soy flakes creates a beautiful deep red liquid.
Now all that is left to do is to stir it gently, until it becomes a creamy consistency, add a tiny bit of minerals and to pour it into our eco-friendly and recycled containers.
And there is it: our Rose & Beet lip tint!
Now that you got to know a little bit about how it is created, let’s talk about how to use it! Well, our favorite way is to apply it to our lips and cheeks with our fingers and gently rub it into the skin. This will give your lips and cheeks a lovely, subtle red tint.
You can also use a tiny bit as a primer for your foundation powder, whenever in a pinch. Just rub it into the skin, so that the red tint fades and the apply your powder foundation. The Rose & Beet lips stain will serve as the perfect base to keep your powder foundation in place all day long!
We also love using the Rose & Beet tint on little breakouts on our skin to help with the healing process and to nourish the delicate under-eye area before going to bed. The possibilities are endless!
